Lead Instructor

Meet Amir Carraway, the dynamic new lead trainer at Touch Shooting, who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Touch. Having faced and overcome adversity early in his career, Amir channeled his passion for basketball into a relentless pursuit of excellence. This journey has now brought him back to Sacramento to inspire and train the next generation of athletes.

A former high school teammate of founder Ryan Sypkens, Amir's senior season was cut short by injury, yet he secured a Division II scholarship at Chico State. At Chico State, he set the ALL TIME RECORD for points in the CCAA Tournament, led the team to its first CCAA Championship and NCAA West Regional Championship, where he was named Most Outstanding Player. A two-time All-CCAA selection, Carraway left a lasting mark, ranking among the program's top 10 in points, 3-pointers, blocked shots, free throws, free throw percentage, games won, and games played.

Post-college, Amir took his talents abroad, playing professional basketball in Europe, South America, and China for seven years. Notably, he led club team Cimarrones de Choco (Colombia) to its second championship and had a historic Final Four appearance in the FIBA Liga Sudamericana. He also played for CD Valdivia in Chile, contributing to another championship season before his stint in China. In the offseason, Amir had teamed up again with Ryan as a skills trainer for Prolific Prep in Napa, CA.

At Touch Shooting, Amir leverages his extensive experience to develop training programs that emphasize strategic thinking and leadership. His deep commitment to mentoring ensures that every athlete not only learns how to play but understands the intricacies of winning and excelling both on and off the court.
